There are things in the universe that are simply and purely evil. A warrior does not seek to understand them, or to compromise with them. He seeks only to obliterate them.

A warrior may forget that even the task of identifying the enemy can be difficult. And the cost of that failure can lead to catastrophe.

Time for Thrawn to face his future.

I am a warrior, Your Majesty. A warrior may retreat. He does not flee. He may lie in ambush. He does not hide. He may experience victory or defeat. He does not cease to serve.

All lives are important, and I resist the thought of standing by and watching two hundred possibly needless deaths.

It is said that one should keep one's allies within view, and one's enemies within reach. A valid statement. One must be able to read an ally's strengths, so as to determine how to best use them. One must similarly be able to read his enemy's weaknesses, so as to determine how to best defeat him. But what of friends? There is no accepted answer, perhaps true friendship is so exceedingly rare. But I had formulated my own. A friend need not be kept within sight or within reach. A friend must be allowed the freedom to find and follow his own path. If one is fortunate, those paths will for a time join. But if paths separate, it is comforting to know that a friend still graces the universe with his skills, and his viewpoint, and his present. For if one is remembered by a friend, one is never truly gone.

Aristocra Zistalmu: "You've made quite a name for yourself over the past few years."

I can see it all. Their tactics, their patterns, their weaknesses. I could tell you right here, right now, how to beat them.

If any break off and run, let them go. Their tales of what happened here today will hasten the demoralization of any other such groups.

Thrawn: "Not at all. Our myths of the Republic speak of two groups of beings with such powers: the Jedi, and the Sith. But the Sith are reputed to be clever and capable warriors."

Qilori: "If they suspect you're hunting pirates-"
Thrawn: "You think they only suspect? Yes; point taken. Let's remove any lingering doubts."

Wedge: "You know, for just an hour I'd like to know what it's like to fly with the Force watching my back."
Luke: "It's almost as good as having you watching my back."

If you continue to map the Unknown Regions, you'll have to call them something else.

Lieutenant, you're out of uniform. And you know, wearing an Ewok as a swimsuit is a felony on some worlds.

Cracken: "You're coming dangerously close to insubordination, General."
Wedge: "No, General. I'm not your subordinate. And what I'm coming dangerously close to is violence."

Isard: "I expected you to be taller."

Tomer, I direct your attention to the word "let". You've misused it. You don't "let" me, or "not let" me, anything. Understand?

Wedge: "What's that?"
Janson: "That's the sun, Wedge. It's after dawn."
Wedge: "Well, it offends me. Turn it off."

Han: "I could arrange for you to receive orders to conquer Coruscant, but your only resources would be twelve drunken Ewoks, four malfunctioning speeders, and forty kilos of beach sand."
Wedge: "That'll take at least two weeks, sir."

There are two types of male pilots. Good men, such as the ones I never tried to break or run out of my squadrons, whom I would shoot before I ever trusted them with my daughter. And worse men, whom I would shoot if I caught them looking at my daughter.

It's like you said: the Death Star had to be stopped. Just as the Empire must be destroyed. If that's going to happen, some of us have to get blood on our hands. We have to be willing to kill, and willing to die. It's not easy and it never will be. But I can tell you this much, Kyrell. It's easier than standing by and doing nothing.

The truth can hurt. But lies are worse.

I believe, and believe strongly, that the Republic needs Jedi that get their hands dirty, that are part of the Republic's daily life. Jedi that live in ivory towers might be more dangerous than no Jedi at all.

Mon Mothma: "Luke is probably the last fully realized Jedi, General Solo. If he is lost... it may be over for the Rebel Alliance and the galaxy."
Han Solo: "Yeah, well, if he's such a great Jedi, how come I have to keep rescuing him?"

Claiming the name of Luke Skywalker also claims his crimes against the Empire. This is the result. Skywalkers die.

We keep our door open to my old master Dooku. Sometimes paths diverge, and he is walking a different one than the rest of us. But he is still welcome. If we cut off everyone whose choices differ from our own, we would stagnate and cease to learn, cease to grow. We must let people choose their path, and let them go as they see fit, but always leave a door open for them to return. Despite what others may call them, no one is ever truly lost. There is always hope in the Force.

You're an enemy of the Empire!

You fight like a Jedi. You fight as if this were your only weapon. It is not. The Sith's weapon is not the lightsaber. It is the dark side of the Force. And the dark side touches everything. The saber is merely a symbol. A flame, signifying the great blaze of the dark side. The inferno that consumes all who come against it.

Anyone can fire a blaster. Very few can safely and skillfully wield a lightsaber. Everyone in the galaxy knows this to be true. We want our opponents to know that we use a weapon that requires intention. Training, precision and choice. The lightsaber symbolizes the care with which we approach our gifts through the Force and the care with which we wield them. It reminds others that while we could do more... we very purposefully do not.

Remember why the Sith are more powerful than the Jedi, Sidious: because we are not afraid to feel. We embrace the spectrum of emotions, from the heights of transcendent joy to the depths of hatred and despair.

"Uncertainty is the first step toward self-determination," Plagueis said. "Courage comes next."

The power of the dark side is an illness no true Sith would wish to be cured of.

Plagueis extended his left hand to touch him on the crown of the head. "Then it is done. From this day forward, the truth of you, now and forever more, will be Sidious."

We are all two-faced beings, divided by the Force and fated for eternity to search out our hidden identities.

Rarely did events play out as imagined, in any case. The order of future events was transient. In the same way that the past was reconfigured by selective memory, future events, too, were moving targets. One could only act on instinct, grab hold of an intuited perfect moment, and spring into action.

But darkness is eternal. Unlike the light, it cannot be extinguished. It will always find a way to rise again. And I, Darth Sidious, have risen with it.

To say that the Force works in mysterious ways is to admit one's ignorance, for any mystery can be solved through the application of knowledge and unrelenting effort.

Tell me what you regard as your greatest strength, so I will know how best to undermine you; tell me of your greatest fear, so I will know which I must force you to face; tell me what you cherish most, so I will know what to take from you; and tell me what you crave, so that I might deny you.

Evil? What is that? ...You said you were death itself. Are you evil, then, or are you simply stronger and more awake than others? Who gives more shape to sentient history: the good, who adhere to the tried and true, or those who seek to rouse beings from their stupor and lead them to glory? A storm you are, but a much needed one, to wash away the old and complacent and prune the galaxy of deadweight.

A Jedi sufficiently strong in the Force can be trained to produce a facsimile, but not true Sith lightning, which, unabated, has the power not only to incapacitate or kill, but to physically transform the victim. Force lightning requires strength of a sort only a Sith can command because we accept consequence and reject compassion. To do so requires a thirst for power that is not easily satisfied. The Force tries to resist the callings of ravenous spirits; therefore it must be broken and made a beast of burden. It must be made to answer to one's will.

We are not insurgents. We are partisans. We are a rebellion. I bring battle-hardened fighters. I bring experienced tacticians. I bring pilots, a squadron of them. I bring the means with which to fight back. I am inviting you, both of you, to join me in this.

Holding a planet doesn't just introduce the possibility that you will lose it. It begins the countdown.

Deception begins with bureaucracy.
